Well, after a very busy December shooting Shrek the Musical, family portraits, head shots and Nutcracker, I've finally got all the Nutcracker photos up online for viewing and ordering. This year, to simplify matters, you can do all your orders online and they will be mailed to your doorstep. If you would rather save the shipping fee, best bet is to just order the digital download then you can upload the photo onto Lens and Shutter (my recommendation for best printing in town of my theatre shots) or London Drugs, Costco, Wal-Mart or any other photo printing place. These days, most people have printers at home as well however do watch that you're using archival paper and ink if you want the shots to last a lifetime.

Once inside the gallery, you'll find Nutcracker shots from 2011 and 2012 as well which you can also order. I've divided the  photos into sections this year so you're not having to browse them all if you are just looking for something in the second act. Hopefully this makes things easier. Also, you'll find there are two complete shoots as I photographed both school matinees to get both casts.

SPCA Gala Fundraiser

I had the honour of being hired to capture the SPCA's 5th annual gala fundraiser this past weekend and in the true spirit of the event, donated my fee back to the animals - one look at those big puppy dog eyes and the videos they showed and there was no way I could even think of accepting the cheque. It's good for everyone to have a few select causes they donate their time to and as an animal lover, the SPCA is one of mine.

Okanagan Summer Wedding

When it's 35 degrees or so here in the summer, there's nothing nicer than a wedding on the lake, where even the bride and groom can hop in to cool off. Such as the case over the Canada Day weekend when I shot this wedding. In addition to the slightly more formal shots we took during the day, this one told the real story of the weather and quickly became a favourite.

But for now, while you're here, I have to tell you about some of the amazing and uplifting events I've had the privilege to be hired to photograph this month. First, there was a surprise graduation party for a young woman with brain cancer. It was the inaugural Coloured Marble Celebration and listening to the speeches left me with tears in my eyes, hearing the obstacles this young woman had to overcome to graduate from university. Truly inspiring!
Then there was the 75th anniversary gala for Canadian School of Ballet where I got to watch the stars of tomorrow including Kira Hofmann who has just graduated from Royal Winnipeg Ballet's program and will be heading overseas to continue training with the Stuttgart Ballet's program in the fall. This young woman has an amazing future ahead of her!

Then I really got my eyes opened to a whole other world when Spinal Cord Injury BC hired me to photograph their camp out at Fintry Provincial Campground last weekend. I confess that I have had very little exposure to people with spinal cord injuries before and getting to hang out with this awesome group for the day was just so inspirational. I met this one amazing  quadriplegic who wanted to try waterskiing and his attitude was incredible, and some volunteers who made my eyes well up with their dedication and amazing kindness. I was especially blown away by the young volunteers from the organization CRIS Adaptive Adventures who helped two different groups of quads and paraplegics to go hiking up the mountainside to view the Fintry Falls. What an incredible day. Thank you SPIBC for entrusting me with this heartwarming and inspirational assignment.

Once again I was fortunate enough to shoot and sell some photos to Cirque du Soleil. This time, it was their show Quidam. Of all the Cirque shows I've seen, this one was the most touching for the story line and when the silk contortion artist Tanya Burke came out, I could hardly breathe! I'm just thankful I could hold the camera still when staring in awe, and remember to shoot! Wow!!!!

Oh well, better late than never, wanted to share these adorable photos of baby Sawyer, taken shortly after his birth. There's just nothing as precious as a newborn! How lucky for me to get to capture the beauty of this precious new life! Welcome to the world, Sawyer!

Well, I can't believe how negligent I've been in blogging, really! But such is life. It's been an incredibly great summer with some very fun jobs, including this fashion shoot I did for Genesis Fashions, featuring the work of the wonderfully talented Daphne Odjig. It's a new line of clothing that features Odjig's prints and i was fortunate enough to be hired to shoot it for them. After shooting lots of pants, dresses, coats and stuff, the final piece of the day was this stunning full length - well, all i can call it is piece of wearable art. This model was a joy to work with as well! I'll post a link to the website once they get all my photos loaded so you can check out the awesome clothes!

There is nothing like a newborn baby to turn any woman into mush. Whether it's the wisdom you see in their eyes or the peacefulness as they sleep, these tiny little beings are nothing short of magical and every time I get the honour to photograph one, I marvel at their beauty.

I was once again fortunate enough to get a trip to preview Cirque du Soleil for an upcoming show they will have in Penticton. The show, Dralion, was playing in Abbotsford and I had the chance to go see it and shoot for the Kelowna paper.

It was simply stunning!!!!!

I have lots of wonderful pictures but for some reason, this one just caught my eye first, perhaps because you can see the slight movement in his left leg so you know he's in motion.

The costumes are stunning, the music amazing and the acts are, well, they're Cirque, need I say more? I hope to get more posted soon.

What fun, I shot my first wedding at Sparkling Hill Resort last weekend - what a great setting! I was thankful for my sunglasses as my eyes welled up and over several times during this heartfelt ceremony that included a Sand Ceremony, with the white sand representing God, and different coloured sands representing the bride, groom and their children. They started with the white sand, each poured their own colour, then the bride and groom poured together and finished with white on top. It was just so beautiful!

Wow, have I been negligent in blogging! Yikes! I guess I've just been a little too slammed under and because I have been using Facebook more frequently, I sort of forget to blog. Bad, bad, bad...

What's been keeping me busy? Besides some theatre shoots and family portraits, I got to shoot Royal Winnipeg Ballet when they were in town - I was permitted to shoot from the wings, which is always exciting! Of course, it's a huge challenge as not only can you not trust your light meter, but you have to stay out of the way of the dancers who zip on and off stage at lightning speed.

I also was lucky enough to shoot a 10 hour old baby boy, the pregnancy shots just a few days before his birth, and a follow up at 10 days old. I will try to get some of those posted as well, however should you wish, you can find many more by searching me out on Facebook under Glenna Turnbull Photography. Guitar Heaven

OK, so I went to the Joe Satriani concert to shoot it for the paper the other night and arrived in time to catch the opening act, a guy I confess i'd never heard of before, Dave Martone.

Well, I certainly know who is he now and the buzz around the theatre during intermission was palpable. I had one friend ask, how can Satriani top that?

For those who saw the show, Satriani picked up right where Martone left off and kept on building it higher, completely rocking out the theatre.

Talk about Guitar Heaven!

YIKES, I can't believe how busy I've been - and sadly, my blog has been grossly neglected! So, in an effort to make up for it, I'm making a New Year's resolution to try and be more regular in posting.

Family portraits kept me busy in November and over Christmas time, and December was busy shooting two casts of Nutcracker as well as Kelowna Actors Studio's White Christmas. Add to that trying to get all the photography and writing done for the first two issues of Big White magazine and, well, you get the picture (or actually, you don't get the picture...ha-ha-ha...)

I confess, I didn't know who Johnny Reid was until I got to the concert to shoot last night but I certainly know who he is now.

He was great fun to shoot, hamming it up for the camera. These were a few of my favorites.

Ballet Kelowna dancers were back dancing in Orchard Park Mall over the weekend so I stopped by to do some photos for their website. I thought this one summed it up perfectly as you can see the other two gentleman in the background and the heads of some of the spectators.

It's been killing me to sit on the Ballet Kelowna photos without sharing them, but I'm working on their calendar right now and as soon as I have the green light, will post some up here and on my Facebook photography page. For now, here's this one and one more from the mall.

Jesse Cook was back in Kelowna last week for a concert at Mission Hill Winery and as always, put on a fabulous show. I've seen him live many times - first was when he headlined at Salmon Arm Roots & Blues on the Friday night, 2001, then in Vernon a couple of times, but the one show that will forever stand out will be the night I went home with the band at Kaslo Jazz Festival a few years back. No, it's not what it sounds like... let me explain...

I was supposed to meet some friends at the festival but when I got there, discovered there was no cell service. I looked for them all day and never did find them. THere was not a campground spot to had within 50 kilometers or more and as the began to set i realized I'd probably end up having to sleep in my car.

During Jesse's show, i was shooting it (shot on my website under music) when his manager came over and asked if I wanted to meet the band after the show. Of course I said no...

Well, there I was sitting backstage sipping a beer with Jesse and the band (what awesome, awesome people!) and when I finished, I made a comment about having to sleep in my car. "Don't be silly," they said, "we've got an entire heli-ski lodge to ourselves, you can come sleep there with us." Of course, I said no...

Funniest part was Jesse's manager Darryl didn't have a jacket so I loaned him my baby pink coloured hoodie to wear. As he hopped onto his Harley to ride to the lodge he looked around and made a comment that he could potentially get beaten up for this.

I ended up sharing a room (it's okay, Mom, I had my own bed) with Jesse's guitar player at the time, Dominic. Truly a gentleman. As for Jesse, he said he had sunk to an all time low that evening as someone had given him a can of beans to autograph.

I've had a couple of people ask to see more of the Cirque images so here are a few more.

The clowns are simply spectacular in this performance and the gymnasts in the power track are absolutely mind blowing. Whoever choreographed the power track must have been a genius or a sadist just waiting for an accident to happen. It is unbelievable the way they go, across the stage on trampoline strips shaped like an "X".

It was definitely one of the highlights of the first half of the show.

What a fabulous week this has been. I started off by shooting for Ballet Kelowna (photos to come) and then was asked by Cirque du Soleil to come in and shoot some shots for them to use.

Anyone who knows me knows I am a certifed Cirque-a-holic and so the thought of getting paid not only by the local paper but by Cirque as well to come in and shoot was kind of like getting my ultimate dream job.

First they flew me to Edmonton to shoot the show there, and then they asked me to come back and shoot for them again in Kelowna last night. YIPEEE!!!!

The show is fantastic and if anyone is fence sitting on whether or not to buy tickets, my suggestion would be DEFINITELY go. I bought my own tickets to take my kids the day they went on sale, not knowing I would have already seen the show twice before our ticket date, but honestly I just can't wait to see the show again - especially as I will get to just sit back and watch with both eyes.

What a blast at Salmon Arm Roots & Blues festival. It's always a good time.

It was, however, the first time I've ever actually been scared shooting a show. I don't know if you've ever seen where they put the photographers but it's between the fence and the stage. At this show, they had to ask everyone to please stop pushing and said K'NAAN wouldn't come on until everyone moved back. I looked at the thousands of people pushing on the fence and I looked at the tiny space between the fence and stage and realized, one good shove and I was going to get popped like a zit between the fence and stage. So, I just got my shot and got the heck out of there, back to the blanket on the grass with my friends. Of course once there, I could not resist taking this second shot of a kid at his first concert. I gave his dad my email address - hope I hear from them so I can pass the shot on as a keepsake.
